ABSTRACT
This dissertation seeks to expand our understanding of market-making processes from a perspective of social and political embeddedness. While the dynamics of globalization and capitalist diffusion lend themselves to hypotheses of capitalist convergence, a more nuanced analysis of the characteristics of contemporary capitalist systems create a more diversified picture, as already put forward by the literature on Varietis of Capitalism or more wholistic approaches. So far, the analysis and reconceptualization of the reciprocal relationship between institutions and markets have overwhelmingly been characterized by a Western bias. Therefore, this project will broaden the geographic scope for the empirical evaluation of contemporary approaches to include countries of the European neighborhood in the empirical assessment of market-making processes and their embeddedness.
